Seven Simple Step Process

Planning

Determine new or existing machines to be supported for next twelve months. Focus on hardware to be selected for next SOE build.

Requirements

Propose functional requirements of SOE base image. Potential drivers, applications, security patches and environments to deploy.

Design & Prototype

Build virtual machine image without drivers for any particular model to establish desired end-product. Capture as build documentation.

Development

Re-build SOE using VM containers including hardware driver injection with OEM driver packs. Capture images from VM as WIM images.

Testing

Establish user experience with software and hardware operability. Ensure drivers installed correctly and device is functional. Verify software requirements met.

Deployment

Deploy WIM image via SCCM, MDT, Norton Ghost, etc. Validate installation and sign-off with OEM vendors to deploy image. Setup task sequence to deploy.

Operations & Maintenance

Re-integrate monthly security patches and software updates into WIM image and re-deploy image. Rebuild using latest Windows revision at bi-annual mark.
